About Us

NAPA UROLOGY HISTORY

In 1953 Dr. Jack Turner opened a small medical office on 1950 Jefferson Street in Napa.  He was the first Urologist in the Napa Valley and began practicing at the old Parks Victory Hospital in Napa.  In the 1970’s, Drs. Gerald Ireland, William Stewart and Thomas Hildreth respectively joined the practice.  In 1972, the practice officially came to be called Napa Valley Urology Associates (NVUA).  By 1980, NVUA relocated near the Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa.  The doctors were in the military service and also worked as clinical instructors in Urology at UC Davis.  Dr. James Bird, a respected local physician, also worked with NVUA for several years providing routine medical care.

The practice of Urology was quite different decades ago.  For instance, house calls were a large part of medical practice in the days before home health care.  Today, Dr. Hildreth one of the founding members of NVUA  is mainly retired now but comes in to clinic a few hours a week.  Dr. Hildreth graduated and completed his residency from the University of Minnesota in 1969.

Dr. Khaira joined NVUA in 2008 and extensive expertise in all areas of Urology.  He completed medical school at USC Medical School, Urologic residency at the University of Michigan and a Robotic Oncology Fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. Dr. Khaira serves his patients with a commitment to high quality, compassionate care.  He is widely published in the field of minimally invasive surgery.  Dr. Khaira focused special attention on robotic surgery, male infertility and erectile dysfunction through research and clinical fellowships.  He serves as a proctor for da Vinci surgery and has trained urologists throughout the country.  Dr. Khaira continues to be actively involved in programs and studies to improve the delivery of health care.

Dr. Mindy Marquez joined NVUA practice a few years ago and focuses on female incontinence and over-active bladder.

SOLANO COUNTY PRACTICE

Dr. Khaira was recruited to join NorthBay Medical Center a few years ago.  He has seperately expanded his personal urology practice to serve both Solano and Napa counties.  He presently serves as the Director of Urology at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield and Vacaville.

With legislative changes in the medical field, particularly with the implementation of the ACA, the practice of medicine continues to change dramatically. Dr. Khaira continues the tradition of providing the highest quality, most advanced Urologic care for his patients; appreciating the unique trust that his patients place in him and striving to continually earn that trust with meticulous surgical care and warm and personalized bedside care.  Technological advancements, particularly in robotic surgery have provided enormous benefits to patients.  Dr. Khaira provides robotic and laparoscopic surgical options for patients undergoing treatment for urologic disease. Dr. Khaira, who is fellowship trained in robotic urology, offers robotically-assisted surgeries using the da Vinci system.  Numerous advantages for patients include shorter hospital stays, less risk of infection, less scarring and faster recovery.

Dr. Khaira enjoys a busy clinical and surgical practice.  He can be seen at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield most Tuesdays to Fridays. Mondays he is available in Napa.
