Thomas Hildreth

Thomas Hildreth, MD

Dr. Hildreth was born and raised in Minneapolis. He comes from a large family of 7 children. There was a strong family work ethic where each sibling had to contribute to the cost of parochial school, high school, and college. He attended University of Minnesota, graduating in 1965 with a degree and microbiology a medical degree in 1969. He married his wife Patricia, a kindergarten teacher in 1966, and together they moved to Colorado where Dr. Hildreth interned at Weld County General Hospital.

Following completion of his internship, Dr. Hildreth practiced general medicine and surgery as a country doctor in Northern Minnesota for a year. Country practice reads like a novel: setting broken bones, pinning fractured hips, delivering babies in the middle of the night in a small country farm houses, drilling burr holes to evacuate blood clots after head injuries, removing gall bladders and appendices, tending snotty noses and sore throats, and of course fishing and hunting

Dr. Hildreth was drafted into the U.S. Air Force and served as a medical officer in the Far East between 1971 and 1974 based in Tachikawa Japan.  Dr. Hildreth and his wife were able to travel extensively throughout the Far East during this period.  Upon completion of his Air Force obligation, he returned to Minnesota for his urologic residency training at Ramsey County General Hospital which he completed 1978.

In 1978, Dr. Hildreth moved to Napa to continue practicing urology.  Dr. Hildreth no longer performs major surgery but does all aspects of clinical urology and minor surgical procedures.  Dr. Hildreth, with his many years of experience, is very comfortable seeing patients in all aspects of urologic care.  If further sub-specialized care is necessary, he refers his patients to Dr. Khaira or Dr. Hendricks.  Dr. Hildreth is an expert in Brachy Therapy and has had extensive training and experience in performing Brachy Therapy for Prostate Cancer.

Dr. Hildreth and his wife have 2 children, Brian and Molly and 3 grandchildren. They all enjoy getting together frequently up at Lake Tahoe and traveling to Minnesota to visit family. As an avid fly fisherman, he will cast a line whenever possible. He has cast many a fly over the waters in states from Alaska to Minnesota, from British Columbia to the Bahamas.
