Microwave Therapy

Microwave therapy of the prostate is an office-based procedure that is very effective treating mild and moderate urinary symptoms from BPH. A small catheter is placed in the prostate for 30 minutes and microwave energy is delivered into the prostate. The resultant damage in the prostate reduces the obstruction and patients experience considerable improvement in their urinary symptoms. Most men are able to stop taking oral medications for BPH after microwave therapy.

Microwave therapy is painless; it is performed while patients are awake. A small amount of local anesthesia is used during the procedure. Many men enjoy reading a magazine or chatting during the treatment!
